Jeremiah 17:5-18
God says that people who trust in other humans are cursed, while those who trust in the Lord are blessed. He gives Jeremiah illustrations from His creation: those who trust in humans are like a shrub in the desert while those who trust in Him are like a tree planted by water.
Do you find yourself relying on other people to carry you through life? Do you put your faith in them to give you fulfillment and happiness? If that’s the case, you will be sorely disappointed. Your life will be dry and empty.
Trust in the Lord today. He is the only One who is faithful. He is the only One who saves us, transforms us and gives us a hope for the future.
Sure, other people can be used by Him to bless us, just as we can be used by Him to bless others. But we can’t fully rely on one another because we are HUMAN and we are IMPERFECT. We will let each other down from time to time. God will never let you down.
Jeremiah knew the human heart is deceitful and wicked, and that makes it hard for us to be honest with ourselves. Let God search your heart and test your mind today. He will show you if you are truly trusting in Him or if deep down you are relying on other people to come through for you.
Spend a few moments in prayer today and tell God you trust in Him and in Him alone. Remember how much He loves you … so much that He would send His Son to earth to die in your place so that you could be forgiven and reconciled to Him. If you’ve trusted in Him for eternity, remember that you can trust Him for today as well.
